1) What is Drummond Offroad Adventure?
It's an event held every year (well almost) since 2000. The event has evolved over the years as some trails have been given and taken from legal ORV usage. We divide up into groups, and head out on the trail. Saturday evening there is a banquet held where door prizes are given out, awards are given, great food is eaten, and stories of the days events and events past are told. Come join us at DOA 2010 to see for yourself!
2) Why should I pay you to ride the same trails I can access for free and what do you do with all the profits that you rake in?
Profits? What profits? MSG has been frequenting the Drummond Island since 2000, we have hosted a DOA every year except 2007 and 2008 when there was some question about the status of the trails. Each DOA held, we have donated ALL of the peoceeds to various charities/non-profits right there on the island. In some cases we have come up short, and donated anyways. We love the island and love to help out.
So to answer the first part of the question: Yes, you can go to DI, anytime and ride the same trails. What will be missing from that experience is commraderie of meeting many new great friends, and re-aquainting with many old friends. It's a sense of community at DOA's. We aren't just collecting the cash and running. The money stays on the island and helps those groups/individuals in need.
3) What if my vehicle is stock with no modifications?
Even better! While there are many people that will come to our events will very built and capable rigs, it is the people with factory stock rigs that tend to steal the spotlight out on the trail. DI is a great place to learn if your new off roading and a great place to visit if you are a seasoned veteran.
4) What's so special about DOA 2011?
EVERYTHING! No really, it's a great way to see and experience the beauty of Drumond Island on a organized an guided trail ride design specifically (and only) for full size vehicles. We have made many new friendships and rekindled old ones every year at this event.
5) What's the banquet dinner all about?
The banquet is time when we reflect back on the days events and hang out with friends both old and new. We also present awards to various people that throughout the day made an impression on us.
Shhhh..... rumor has it that MSG is solidifying the details to have a live band at this years event, don't tell anyone yet, we are still working out the kinks, but right now it is looking good!
6) What do you mean by space is limited?
In accordance with the event permit granted by the MI DNR, we are only allowed to host a pre-determined amount of vehicles as part of our event. (see question 8 for permit details)
7) Where should I stay while on the island?
You can stay anywhere you want. The DOA event is going to be based out of Trailhead Campround located just east of Nevens Road. Check in, drivers meeting, line up, bon fire, and even the banquet will be held here. Reservations for the campground are made through us. Send us an e-mail (remove the "NOSPAM" before sending, info@msg4x4clubNOSPAM.com
8) Why do I have to be a GLFWDA member to attend this event?
MSG4x4club is a member club of GLFWDA. GLFWDA in turn sanctions our event allowing us to be added on their insurance. Without insurance, there would be no way pull an event permit from the MI DNR. Since we technically charge a fee, and assemble more than 19 vehicles for our event, we must by law pull an event permit. Besides, by supporting GLWFDA, you are supporting the many people who volunteer countless hours of theirs lives supporting our passion, fighting to keep trails open and expanding our current trail system.
